Work Process
Context
Lyrics are one of the highest-potential formats for real-time capture on TikTok — lip-syncs, sing-along challenges, and mood-setting overlays. When a new lyrics capability opened up inside Effect House, the question was what it could actually become in a creator's hands.
Exploration — five directions
Five gameplay directions were explored on top of the capability: mouth-spitting lyrics, a retro karaoke practice room, face-cover karaoke, a lyrics green screen, and a singing game with on-beat scoring.
Execution — three shipped
Three directions shipped as published Effect House templates — Lyric Spit, Karaoke, and a Singing Game. For each, I owned the concept, visual design, layout, and the node / timeline logic that synchronizes the lyrics to the track.
Lyric Spit — Mouth-Spitting Lyrics
Lyrics physically spit out of the mouth as the user speaks or sings — a playful, high-energy take that turns lip-sync into a spectacle. Built with a text-spawning system driven by the visual-scripting graph and 2D physics.
Karaoke — Sing-Along
A retro practice-room karaoke effect that brings lyrics on-screen in time with the track, lowering the barrier to sing-along capture.
Singing Game
A game layer on top of the lyrics — sing along on beat, with on-screen scoring and turnaround feedback.
Under the Hood
Each effect is built in Effect House — a text-spawn hierarchy, 2D physics, and a timeline that keeps the lyrics locked to the sound.
